The Province of SASSARI is
one of the widest of Italy since it is formed by all the Northern
part of Sardinia, including ASINARA isle and the
group of MADDALENA isles. The land varies from mountains
to hills, from highlands to miles of untouched coastline of the most
different looks. Within few minutes drive is it possible to change
from steep granite slopes modelled by the wind to enchanting, small
velvet beaches.

Capodorso
Along this coast, the famous EMERALD COAST ( Costa
Smeralda ) centre of International jet set is located, with its well
known areas such as GALLURA, SANTA TERESA,
the gulf and ISLE of ASINARA and STINTINO
village. Further West, beside the beautiful old town of ALGHERO,
the natural caves of CAPO CACCIA and NETTUNO
are worth a visit. Although less famous, the Sardinia inland offers
untouched countryside with several villages rich of local crafts and
cookery specialties.
The picturesque old town of Castelsardo is situated
on a rocky hill 300 ft. above the sea and its fame is due to the ancient
history which starts as far as the 1100, when a noble family of Genua
– the DORIA – founded the first settlement with the name
of Castelgenovese. The strategical position convinced
the Doria to built a fortress – still today towering the town
– around which, during the centuries the built up area developed.
Being such a valuable place, Castelsardo changed
dominators a few times, until 1769, when its actual name was given
by the King of Savoy and Sardinia.
OLD TOWN : it is still surrounded by walls,
with narrow alleys crossing it in every direction all the way up to
the fort, creating a unique atmosphere.
Worth a visit the Casa Comunale of the 12th c., the
Cathedral with its ceramic dome and bell tower, the Belvedere
( view point ) and the Tower Porta al Mare .
Splendid is the view towards Asinara island and Gallura coast
line.
