April 2011 - UNFORGETTABLE ITALY
A poem at Farerwell Dinner !!!
Next step, President of Republic ???
Thanks Margie and the whole group !!

Last September while I was walking along the aisle on the coach, I noticed a nice lady very busy in handling something strange.
She looked very happy of what she was doing, and that attracted my curiosity.
It was then that I ( and the rest of that group too !!) met the creativity of Jean Jusko. Her sketchbook always handy, watercolors ready in every condition, the eternal smile transmitting joy and the incredible views Italy can offer : the results are very pretty sketches, especially enjoyable for their freshness, snapshots of Italy definitely not digital !! ( thanks Lord !! ).
I chose a few, but all of them deserve to be seen on

Here your last news / photos :
GET-“The World’s Most Leisurely Tours” presents: The Adventures of SuperGuide!
Faster than a speeding Vespa! More powerful than a group of shopping, sinning women! Able to break up traffic jams with a single finger!
(“Look! Up in the front of the bus! Is it a yellow hat? Is it a stand up comedian? It’s SuperGuide!”)
Yes, it’s SuperGuide…a strange Italian from a small village, who came to GET with powers and abilities far beyond those of the inferior tour guides!
SuperGuide…who can name the course of all the rivers, change batteries with his bare hands, and who, disguised as Riccardo Panareo, a mild mannered tour guide for the Grand European Tour Company, tells a never-ending story of truth, made up facts and the Italiano way!
And now, another exciting tour will begin with, SuperGuide!
We hope this story of our SuperGuide will make it on to the "Piano, Piano" page. If you can put the photos on the page with the story it would be great. Thanks again for every wonderful feat that you performed for our group....Seguace di Superman! (I hope this translates into, Follower's of Superman!)

I am pleased to show in these pages two more wonderful poems ( besides the one that Bev and Jim Blatchley
- from Grand Italia Tour last April 2010 - already sent us ) that were presented on our Farewell Dinner in Rome at the end of a fantastic trip this May .
It must be a serious virus !!!!
Should we start getting worried ???
Grazie to Pat Selin, Dee Greathouse and the Blatchleys .
My goodness, my gracious,
how fast the time flies!
I can’t believe our days in Italy have almost gone by!
What a delight it has been to meet all of you -
And enjoy what this beautiful country has allowed us to do.
Rome, Florence, Venice,
Assisi and the Isle of Capri
Sorrento, Verona, Stresa and the coast of Amalfi!
San Gimignano, Siena, Lugano and more …
And along the way we’ve learned so much history and folklore!
So, tonight, especially, we thank “our” Vincenzo – hooray!
And we thank dear Riccardo for keeping track of us all these days.
Vincenzo, our friend, you’ve driven us thousands of miles -
safely and kindly and always with that smile!
And Riccardo- “Piano,
piano, seniorae” with your hat so yellow
You certainly are a very special fellow!
For your direction,
friendship and knowledge surpassed most by far
Of ANY tour director in Italy – How SPECIAL you are!!!
So as we bid you ALL a fond farewell -
We thank you and we’ll miss you - it sure has been swell!
We will NEVER forget our
time here with you …
Good health, happy traveling and best wishes to ALL of you!!!
From Pat SELIN, Grand Italia tour, May 2010

There was a group of Yanks
Italy they wanted to see -
So Grand European said TERRIFIC,
But you'll have to pay a HUGE fee...
We all arrived in Rome
Excited by thoughts of our trip,
After Riccardo had met us,
I think he needed a "nip".
Guided by the Yellow Cap
Off we went to explore -
The Colosseum, Trevi - so much to see
Our feet began to get sore.
We traveled from Sorrento North
So many place we saw -
We seemed to eat so much food
Our tongues were getting quite raw.
Vincenzo's driving was great
It lulled us into a snooze
Riccardo would interrupt our "Siestas"
We had more sightseeing and queues.
The coughing began and voices dropped
The "Creeping Crud" had begun,
No one was totally spared
I guess we needed more sun.
All in all our trip was "Grand"
Soon we all will be going home
But in our hearts we will always remember
"Piano, Piano" and Rome !!!

On April 13th, we all started out,
taking the trip of our lives.
We boarded our planes, flying thousands of miles,
where we met new friends, their husbands and wives.
Our 1st stop was Rome, where we all settled in.
I enjoyed our first tour of the day,
The centre of Rome and the city by night,
Was a great preview of our stay.
Vatican and the Coliseum
Were certainly a sight to behold,
The Sistine Chapel, its art and its ceiling
By Michelangelo in colours so bold.
On the Montecassino where we drove to the top
On a road so narrow and scary
The view from the Abbey was something to see
But the drive back down was quite hairy !
Now on to Pompei, the City of Ruins,
Where we walked through the streets with our guide
We saw houses with frescoes still on their walls
And the new discoveries being done with such pride
Now on to Sorrento with traffic so bad
It’s almost as scary as Rome
Stops signs mean nothing, nor do their lights
This city is nothing like home !!
We travelled by bus to the top of the mountain
Where we met Marisa for dinner,
I can’t believe all the food that she cooked
To us, this stop was a sure winner.
Next we took a boat to the Island of Capri,
Which was such a wonderful sight
Whoever put this city on a tour
Could not have been more right !
Now on the Amalfi coast riding in a small van
Where the road again was so narrow and curved
We visited Positano, right up close to the mountains
And walking through their streets tested our nerves.
Next, to Assisi was a 6 hrs drive
Where we saw beautiful valleys and hills
We visited the basilica and even went to mass
But it was the spectacular views which gave us a chill !
We got our passports stamped at San Marino
The on to Venice we came
We saw the lights of Venice by boat at night
And the Piazza de San Marco by day.
The next day we went back to Venice
And on a glass factory of Murano
Then back to the boat to see all the lace
Of the really quaint town of Burano
On the way to the Lake Maggiore region
We visited Verona, such an elegant city.
It’s home of the Romeo & Juliet story
And this area was really so pretty.
Next we could see the snow covered Alps
From Baveno which is right on the lake
We visit the Borromeo garden & home
And the panorama view is spectacular & great.
Lugano Switzerland is next on our list
So we hopped one of the ferry to get there
We stopped at the shops and gaped at this view
Because what we are seeing to us is so rare.
The leaning Tower of Pisa is next on the list
And we are having our 1st rainy day
But we still view the Tower, Duomo and Square
And the wet weather does not ruin our stay
The last leg of the trip is the city of Florence
Known for its leather and gold
The museums ,Duomo and Baptistery were cool
And the statue of David was a sight to behold !
The leather is wonderful and hard to resist
And my resolve not to buy was now gone.
I bought a great jacket among more gifts
I think that this stop was too long !!!!
San Gimignano was a quaint and so pretty
The homes and the shops in great shape
We walked 21 steps to get to the square
I fear being tired is my final fate.
Siena was our last stop before we hit Rome
And then we are through with the funs.
Dinner tonight will be the last time
That we can mingle with every last one.
Riccardo, Maurizio, our hats off to you !!
You’ve gone beyond for us all.
If you are getting bored to have funs
Just give all 24 of us a phone calls !!!!!!
Thanks to Bev & Jim BLATCHLEY from all of us on the tour

Investment tips for 2008
With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros
and Acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good
advice. For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected
mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.
Watch for these consolidations in later this year:
1.) Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W. R.
Grace Co. Will merge and become:
Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.
2.) Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and
become:
Poly, Warner Cracker.
3.) 3M will merge with Goodyear and become:
MMMGood.
4.) Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge
and become:
ZipAudiDoDa .
5). FedEx is expected to join its competitor, UPS, and become:
FedUP.
6). Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become:
Fairwell Honeychild.
7). Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become:
PouponPants.
8). Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become:
Knott NOW!
And finally...
9).

SORRY !!!!! Close eyes to your kids, but this is too good !!!!!
For
2 years a man was having an affair with an Italian woman.
One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to
ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she
would go to Italy to secretly have the child.
If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support
until the child turned 18.
She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born.
To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write
'Spaghetti' on the back.
"
Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti,
Spaghetti, Spaghetti.
Three
with meatballs, two without.
Send
extra sauce
!
"
Thanks Wanda

June 2008

After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings and made it safely to his van.
However, he was captured only 2 blocks away when his van ran out of gas.
When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and make such an obvious error, he replied :
" Monsieur, that's the reason why I stole the paintings ......

... I had no MONET ....
... to buy DEGAS ...

... to make the VAN GOGH !!! "

See if you have DE GAULLE to send this to someone else.

I sent it to you because I figured I had nothing TOULOUSE !!

1. Don't look down.
2. Don't look up.
3. Don't look -- it's
easier that way.
4. Forget about camels
not passing through the eye of a needle.
5. Timidity will get you
nowhere -- literally.
6. The solid center line
in the middle of the road is merely a suggestion.
7. Whoever gets to a
lane first has the right of way -- it doesn't matter whose side the lane is
on.
8. Traffic mirrors are
put there so that you can see what you are about to hit head on.
9. Tour buses WILL back
up. (This one is true; they don't want a fender bender that will upset the
itinerary of all their passengers.)
10. Garbage trucks WON'T
back up.
11. Motorcyclists are
fearless.
12. Pedestrians are
fearlesser.
13. Five headlights
coming toward you equal two cars plus one motorcycle, or one car plus three
motorcycles, or five motorcycles, all equally probable.
14. The probability of
an accident is very low; at 40 mph around a hairpin curve 1,000 feet above the
sea everyone pays attention. (Same is true for the Autostrada: at 130
mph, nobody's attention wanders.)
15. Have plenty of limoncello
on hand at the end of a day spent driving the Coast.
If the large, orderly
group of people approaching your car from the opposite direction looks like a
marching band, this is because it is a marching band. No, it will not turn
around.
(Found in a
Fodors newsletter) I thought you friends who experienced this
beautiful, thrilling drive would enjoy the humor!
